What is a double degree?

A double degree is an academic pathway that enables students to obtain two certifications from two institutions simultaneously. This approach allows you to study two complementary disciplines in related or distinct fields. You can take courses in commerce while developing additional skills in international business.

It’s also possible to train in two radically different sectors. Students can join our business school and pursue engineering studies at a partner school at the same time.

How does a double degree work?

The course of a double degree program can vary depending on the institution and the field of study. Generally, you take courses specific to each program and must meet the academic requirements of each school. Courses can be run simultaneously or alternately.

It is sometimes possible to spend one semester at one university and the next at the other. In some cases, you’ll have to work on a project that’s common to both subjects. This demonstrates your ability to master the disciplines. Universities may also require one or more internships during the course.

How long does a double degree last?

The duration of a double degree varies according to the programs chosen and the institutions involved. The years of study are equivalent to conventional training. For example, to obtain a Master’s degree, you need to study for two years, like all students.

It may be possible to extend the period if the schools require two different internships for each field.

What fields are suitable for a double degree?

There are a wide variety of fields available for a double degree. The choice depends on the professional sectors in which you plan to specialize. You have:

  • commerce and engineering ;
  • political science and law ;
  • languages and international affairs ;
  • Marketing and communication;
  • management and IT.

What double degree courses are available?

Most double-degree programs are available from bac +4 level upwards. They lead to a Master’s degree, an MBA or an engineering diploma. These training courses are designed to prepare specialists for direct operational use.

Today, it is becoming increasingly common to find double degree opportunities at bac +4 level and above. To take this a step further, some establishments offer double degree programs at bac +8 or doctorate level. This is the highest level of university education. It represents a high level of expertise.

How much does a double degree cost?

Institutions set the price of training according to the level of certification and the quality of the training. Costs can range from €10,000 to €12,000 per year. If you would like to complete your second training course at a partner school abroad, you will need to prepare an additional fee.

In fact, you need to take into account accommodation, personal needs, air travel and local transportation. You can finance your studies through an apprenticeship contract, if the school offers this type of program. At ESCE, the International Trade and Customs Management specialization, offered in partnership with UPEC and leading to a Bachelor’s degree and a professional license, can be taken on a sandwich course.

Work-study programs offer a total exemption from tuition fees. Merit-based or state scholarships are also available. You can benefit from a 10-20% discount, depending on your baccalauréat grade.
